Excellence in Education for Saratoga published a release today calling for the Saratoga Springs School District to take action
A parents group, Excellence in Education for Saratoga released a statement today accusing a 9th grade ELA teacher at Saratoga High School of assigning sexualized content to his students.
According to the press release, Damien Ubriaco, assigned the short story Gravity to his 9th grade ELA class.
Apparently the story contains language that the group finds offensive and inappropriate for a public school classroom.
"Gravity is a story about a young girl who is sexually assaulted. The story contains language that some parents believe was inappropriate for a public-school classroom including; “pussy grab,” “C U next Tuesday,” “palming of your crotch in a crowded place” and “you feel the pressure of his fingers against you. Hard. Between your legs.”
The group included images of the language in their release.
The group organizer, Sharon Dominguez, says her members have been voicing their concerns over Gravity since the fall of this school year. They have attended board meetings regularly written letters and spoken out.
They now say that its important for the school to communicate what actions it plans to take to ensure this type of content isn't shared with students in the future.
"The district has not followed up with any communication about actions taken to both rectify and prevent this type of thing from happening in the future. It's important for parents to understand that their concerns are being addressed rather than ignored; said Dominguez."
Parents' concerns should be ignored. Most parents are wrong, and pretty stupid.
